For my students or anyone else who wants to know how to make God-truth accessible, here’s how it’s done. Tim talks about current events (like the birth of the royal baby this week) to connect us with our identity (who we are in God’s family). The message is uplifting, honouring women and men as equal when it comes to identity, authority, capacity, responsibility, and dignity.
This message is genuinely encouraging and uncompromisingly challenging at the same time. The encouragement rises from our true identity (not the self-focused identity you hear in some TED talks). The challenge rises from a call to live that identity (not the kind of guilt you hear in some sermons). We have an identity that’s bigger than ourselves, with a calling and capacity to live that identity to the fullest, in community, honouring God and honouring each other.
